Da geht es u.a. um die Erfindung der Zentralperspektive, um die eigene Person als Thema eines Bildes, also um das Selbstporträt, um die Erfindung von Kupferstich, Fotografie, Farbtube und Sprühdose - kleine Dinge, was die beiden letztgenannten betrifft, mit großer Wirkung, denn ohne sie wären Impressionismus und Graffiti-Kunst kaum denkbar. Der Autor erklärt klar, anschaulich und kurzweilig, worin die Bedeutung der jeweiligen Neuerung liegt und stellt ihre Erfinder bzw. wichtige Anwender vor, so z.B. Brunelleschi, van Eyck, Dürer, Monet, Wilhelm Busch, Kandinsky, Pollock, Harald Naegeli.
