Titus Müller ist bekannt für seine spannenden und umfangreichen historischen Romane (zuletzt "Der Tag X", ID-A 13/17). Hier erzählt er nun eine Liebesgeschichte und zugleich ein Kapitel aus der englischen Geschichte. Im 17. Jahrhundert führten drei blutige Bürgerkriege zur Abschaffung der Monarchie und der Herrschaft der Puritaner in London. In dieser Zeit treffen sich John, ein armer Wasserträger, aufgewachsen bei frommen Protestanten und Aurelia, Tochter einst wohlhabender Mitglieder der Church of England. Welten liegen zwischen diesen jungen Leuten, doch sie fühlen sich zueinander hingezogen und missachten die strengen Grenzen, die zwischen den Gruppen unterschiedlicher Religionsauffassung bestehen. Die Begegnung lässt John die strengen Regeln der Puritaner infrage stellen, Aurelia hingegen sieht, welche Rechte dort den Frauen zugestanden werden. Die jungen Leute schaffen es, an Weihnachten eine Verständigung zwischen den Familien herzustellen. Eine romantische Erzählung, die die Irrwege religiöser Eiferer deutlich aufzeigt. Ein literarisches Kleinod. Gern allen Bibliotheken empfohlen.
