Content: "What, according to the Book of Amos, does it mean to be the people of God? In this book, Andrew M. King employs a Social Identity Approach (SIA), comprised of Social Identity Theory and Self-Categorization Theory, to explore the relationship between identity formation and the biblical text. Specifically, he examines the identity-forming strategies embedded in the Book of Amos. King begins by outlining the Social Identity Approach, especially its use in Hebrew Bible scholarship. Turning to the Book of Amos, he analyzes group dynamics and intergroup conflicts (national and interpersonal), as well as Amos's presentation of Israel's history and Israel's future. King provides extensive insight into the rhetorical strategies in Amos that shape the trans-temporal audience's sense of self. To live as the people of God, according to Amos, readers and hearers must adopt norms defined by a proper relationship to God that results in the proper treatment of others."--

Content: "How do we understand types of cinema that offer experiences of discomfort, awkwardness or disquieting uncertainty? This book examines a number of examples of such work at the heart of contemporary art and indie film. While the commercial mainstream tends to offer comforting viewing experiences - or moments of discomfort that exist largely to be overcome - The Cinema of Discomfort analyses films in which discomfort is offered in a sustained manner. Cinema of this kind confronts us with material such as distinctly uncomfortable sexual encounters. It invites us into uncertain relationships with awkward and sometimes unlikable characters. It presents us with challenging behaviour or what are presented as uncomfortable realities. It often refuses information on which to base judgments. More discomfortingly, cinema of this kind tends to provoke uncertainty at the level of what emotional responses were are encouraged to have towards difficult, sometimes controversial, characters or events. The Cinema of Discomfort examines a number of case-studies, including Palindromes by Todd Solondz (US) and Dogtooth from Yorgos Lanthimos (Greece). Offering close textual analysis of the manner in which discomfort is generated, it also asks how we should understand the appeal of such work to certain viewers and how the existence of films of this kind can be explained, as products of both their socio-cultural context and the more particular institutional realms of art and indie film"--

Content: Introduction -- What Is a No Borders Politics? -- No Borders Politics in Practice: The No Borders Movement as a Spectrum of Action -- The Struggle for Mobility in Athens -- The Struggle for Mobility in Calais -- Conclusions: So What Is a No Borders Politics? -- Afterword.
Content: A highly original and provocative examination of 'no borders politics' and what this means within current contentious debates on migration
Content: In No Borders, Natasha King draws on more than a decade of experience as a migrant rights activist as well as extensive research in Greece and Calais in order to explore the dilemmas and challenges involved in translating the "No Borders" slogan into practice. What does it mean to try to make this idea a reality? To answer that, she examines where and how activists have so far succeeded, and the difficulties that are currently holding them back. Wide-ranging and interdisciplinary, No Borders is vital reading for anyone interested in how to make radical alternatives a genuine possibility for our times. Raising crucial questions about the nature of resistance, King shows that, far from being an idle fantasy, the ideal of a world without borders is very much of the here and now. -- Provided by publisher
