"Türkische Motive und Themen haben seit Jahrhunderten europäische Kunst und das Kunsthandwerk angeregt. An diese Wirkungsmöglichkeit möchte eine Auswahl von 80 Objekten international bekannter Designer aus der modernen Türkei anknüpfen. Die elf Künstler aus verschiedenen Generationen haben eine Gemeinsamkeit: Innerhalb ihres Schaffens finden sich Anklänge an tief in der osmanisch-türkischen Kunsttradition verankerte Überlieferungen, die mit modernen Funktionsformen verschmolzen wurden. Die Interpretation historischer Motive und Konzepte ist, wie es sich für Meisterwerke gehört, keinesfalls aufdringlich oder 'regionaltypisch', sondern verschafft den Objekten einen zusätzlichen Reiz. Neben den historischen Objekten der Museumssammlung die Verbindung mit neuen ästhetischen Normen zu erleben, ist sicherlich eine Herausforderung, die im von der UNESCO 2006 zur 'Stadt des Designs' ernannten Berlin ein neues Museumspublikum ansprechen wird." -- "Turkish motifs and themes have for centuries inspired European art and crafts. The eleven artists of different generations have one thing in common: Within their work, there are echoes of traditions that are deeply rooted in the Ottoman-Turkish artistic tradition and that have been blended with modern functional forms. The interpretation of historical motifs and concepts is, as befits masterpieces, not intrusive or 'regional typical', but gives the objects an additional charm. In addition to experiencing the connection with new aesthetic norms in addition to the historical objects of the museum collection, it is certainly a challenge that will appeal to a new museum audience in Berlin, which has been named 'City of Design' by UNESCO in 2006."
