Phyllida Lloyd zeigt in ihrem Biopic über "Die Eiserne Lady" weniger die Politikerin als den Menschen Margaret Thatcher, eine Frau, Ehefrau und Mutter. Erzählt wird dieses erfüllte Leben aus Rückblenden und Erinnerungen der mittlerweile alten und an Alzheimer erkrankten Frau. Stilsicher wechseln sepiabraune Vergangenheitsaufnahmen mit hellen, kühlen Gegenwartsszenen. Alexandra Roach verkörpert die blutjunge Margaret, die großartige, für ihre Leistung mit einem Oscar prämierte Meryl Streep die erwachsene Poltikerin. Ein bisschen mehr Kanten und Ecken hätten dem Film ab und an gut zu Gesicht gestanden, schließlich war Thatcher Zeit ihres Politikerlebens eine sehr umstrittene Figur, aber das ist nur ein kleiner Makel.
