An den 〉Deutschen Auslandswissenschaften〈zeigt sich beispielhaft, was unter 〉politischer Wissenschaft〈 im NS-Sinne zu verstehen ist. Diese 1940 begründete politikwissenschaftliche Disziplin war an der Praxis nationalsozialistischer Rassenpolitik ausgerichtet und fühlte sich zum 〉Einsatz〈 berufen - bis hin zum Massenmord. Der Autor analysiert Entstehung und Aufbau des Deutschen Auslandswissenschaftlichen Instituts und der Auslandswissen-schaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Berlin und das wissenschaftliche Selbstverständnis der neuen Disziplin. Organisation und Inhalt ihrer Forschung und Lehre wurden von den Zielen des 〉Rassenimperialismus〈 bestimmt. Das DAWI wurde zum Instrument auswärtiger Kulturpolitik, sein 〉Europa-Seminar〈 sollte die politische Führung mit wissenschaftlicher Expertise versorgen. Auslandswissenschaftler übernahmen Funktionen in Staat, Partei, Wehrmacht und Besatzungsverwaltungen. Das Beispiel des SD macht deutlich, daß der 〉Einsatz〈 von Wissenschaftlern bis zur Beteiligung an Verbrechen der Einsatzgruppen führen konnte. 〉Politische Wissenschaft〈 erweist sich als zentrale Kategorie für die Erforschung nationalsozialistischer Wissenschaftspraxis und für die Analyse von Selbstverständnis und Interaktion nationalsozialistischer Funktionseliten
