Die Fragen sind in 11 Themengebieten von Geschichte und Geografie bis hin zu Technik und Kultur angeordnet. Die Autoren erklären Begriffe wie Yakuza, Keiretsu und Cosplay und erläutern die Gründe für die hohen Selbstmord-, aber geringen Kriminalitätsraten und die beginnende Formung einer Klassengesellschaft. Die 101. Frage nach der Zukunft Japans ist offengelassen worden. Dass Zukunftsvorhersagen unsicher sind, zeigen auch die (jetzt etwas veralteten) Antworten auf die Fragen 62 (Wie viele Atomkraftwerke hat Japan?) und 89 (Warum strebt Japan weiter nach einem Schnellen Brüter?).
