Bei der dafür notwendigen Mutprobe gerät Hannes in Lebensgefahr. Erst in letzter Minute wird er von Kai gerettet, der auch unbedingt zur Bande gehören möchte. Kai sitzt im Rollstuhl und wird von den Vorstadtkrokodilen immer gehänselt. Für sie ist Kai nur der "Spasti", der noch nicht mal wegrennen kann, wenn's brenzlig wird. Als er einen nächtlichen Einbruch beobachtet, wird er plötzlich interessant für die Clique. Doch Kai redet nur, wenn er mitkommen darf. Mit seiner Hilfe und mit kroko-typischem Ideenreichtum, Mut und Phantasie machen sich die "Vorstadtkrokodile" auf, den Fall zu lösen und es mit der übermächtigen Einbrecherbande aufzunehmen ... Seit seinem Erscheinen im Jahr 1977 hat der packende Jugendbuchbestseller eine ganze Generation geprägt und fasziniert. Die Krokos sind Nick Romeo Reimann ("Die wilden Kerle 3-5"), Fabian Halbig (Schlagzeuger der Band "Killerpilze" in seinem Filmdebüt), Leonie Tepe ("Taco und Kaninchen") und Manuel Steitz ("Herr Bello").
