Abstract:
Abstract: In terms of welding with addition of material, as in the case of GMAW process, the obtaining of shorter welding times implies the search for higher deposition rates, since by increasing the deposition rate it is possible to increase the welding speed keeping constant the rate of material deposited per unit of weld bead length. As an alternative, in applications that require high welding speeds, it is currently common to consider the use of hybrid processes or modern welding techniques derived from processes considered as traditional. However, this impliesinvestment that is often not available. The aim of the present work is to analyze the effects of welding torch positioning on the formation of discontinuities and, above all, on geometry of the weld beads produced by the conventional GMAW process at high speeds. For this purpose, welds were welded in overlapping joints, in the horizontal position, at welding speeds over 1 m/min with the conventional GMAW process, and the morphological aspects of weld beads. As a result, it was verified that the positioning of the welding torch has a significant influence on the geometry of the weld bead and that with suitable angles of attack and work it is possible to give greater robustness to the process, even at high welding speeds, without losing productivity
