Ein Buch für Studierende sowie Studieninteressierte zum Themenbereich und Berufsfeld der Translation. In recht theoretischen Abhandlungen mehrerer Autoren wird auf die verschiedenen Felder der Translation, wie beispielsweise das Literaturübersetzen oder Simultandolmetschen, eingegangen. Im weiteren Verlauf widmet sich das Buch dann den möglichen Arbeitsfeldern der Translation. Sowohl klassische Arbeitsbereiche, als auch für die Translation neue Gebiete finden Erwähnung. Leider ist die Herangehensweise der Herausgeber etwas unklar, da die Zielgruppe vermutlich nur teilweise durch das Werk angesprochen wird. Für Studieninteressierte, die nur über Grundwissen zum Fach verfügen, ist das Buch wahrscheinlich zu komplex. Interessant sein dürfte es lediglich für fortgeschrittene Studierende. Deswegen ist es auch nur für öffentliche Bibliotheken mit vielen studentischen Kunden interessant. Als praxisorientiertes Werk wäre alternativ zu nennen "Überleben als Übersetzer" von Neidhardt (nicht besprochen), als theoretisches "Übersetzungstheorien" von Stolze (ID-G 9/95), welches 2011 neu aufgelegt wurde.
