"Spiegel Geschichte" sind die Herausgeberinnen dieses Bandes, in dem neben 2 Historikern hauptsächlich "Spiegel"-Autoren Schlaglichter auf die englische Geschichte werfen. Der Aufbau des Textes erinnert in der Tat an den eines umfangreichen Zeitschriftenartikels, mit 2 Interviews, einigen Grafiken, Exkursen und (leider wenigen) Fotos. Die kurzen Kapitel widmen sich berühmten wie berüchtigten Herrschern, typisch britischen Phänomenen und bedeutenden geschichtlichen Ereignissen vom 9. Jahrhundert bis heute - den Highlights britischer Geschichte. Eine tiefe Einsicht in historische Zusammenhänge vermittelt das zwar nicht, dennoch tragen die Texte bei zum Verständnis von Wandel und gleichzeitiger Stabilität des britischen Staatswesens, in dem die Monarchie durch die Jahrhunderte permanenter Begleiter des Parlamentarismus ist. Die Texte sind dabei unterhaltsam und u.a. auch für Schülerreferate geeignet, anstelle von (ähnlich knappen aber wesentlich trockeneren) Wikipedia-Artikeln.
