    Umfang: 1 online resource (xii, 212 pages) : , digital, PDF file(s).
    ISBN: 9781107325715 (ebook)
Serie: Encyclopedia of mathematics and its applications ; volume 29
Inhalt: This book is a continuation of Theory of Matroids (also edited by Neil White), and again consists of a series of related surveys that have been contributed by authorities in the area. The volume begins with three chapters on coordinatisations, followed by one on matching theory. The next two deal with transversal and simplicial matroids. These are followed by studies of the important matroid invariants. The final chapter deals with matroids in combinatorial optimisation, a topic of much current interest. The whole volume has been carefully edited to ensure a uniform style and notation throughout, and to make a work that can be used as a reference or as an introductory textbook for graduate students or non-specialists.

Serie: Encyclopedia of mathematics and its applications ; volume 40
Inhalt: This volume, the third in a sequence that began with The Theory of Matroids and Combinatorial Geometries, concentrates on the applications of matroid theory to a variety of topics from engineering (rigidity and scene analysis), combinatorics (graphs, lattices, codes and designs), topology and operations research (the greedy algorithm). As with its predecessors, the contributors to this volume have written their articles to form a cohesive account so that the result is a volume which will be a valuable reference for research workers.

    Umfang: 1 online resource (609 p.)
Ausgabe: 2nd rev. and extended ed.
    ISBN: 3-11-025835-8
    Serie: De Gruyter textbook
Inhalt: This is the second revised and extended edition of the successful book on the algebraic structure of the Stone-Čech compactification of a discrete semigroup and its combinatorial applications, primarily in the field known as Ramsey Theory. There has been very active research in the subject dealt with by the book in the 12 years which is now included in this edition. This book is a self-contained exposition of the theory of compact right semigroups for discrete semigroups and the algebraic properties of these objects. The methods applied in the book constitute a mosaic of infinite combinatorics, algebra, and topology. The reader will find numerous combinatorial applications of the theory, including the central sets theorem, partition regularity of matrices, multidimensional Ramsey theory, and many more.
