Inhalt: "Jimmy Carter: Citizen of the South uses photographs and oral histories to illuminate the distinctly Southern life of the former President. The South nurtured Carter, provided a launching pad for his political career, and supported the various activities of his post-presidential life. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter both grew up in Plains, Georgia. Upon returning to Plains after attending Georgia Tech and serving in the Navy, Carter farmed and ran a peanut warehouse while he and Rosalynn raised their family. In 1962, he won election to the Georgia Senate and became Governor just eight years later. With the assistance of many Georgians, he was sworn in as President of the United States in 1977. After losing his bid for reelection, Carter returned home to Plains. Folks from across the South welcomed Jimmy and Rosalynn back home. Soon after planting themselves in the South once again, Carter became a professor at Emory University and established both the Carter Presidential Library and the Carter Center in Atlanta. The Carters also became deeply involved with the Americus, Georgia charity, Habitat for Humanity. Indeed, it was in these post-presidential years that Carter cemented his status as a Citizen of the South and established himself as a force for good in Georgia, throughout the South, and across the world"--

Inhalt: "A highly personal collection documenting the early months of artist Julia Kaye's gender transition. Instead of a traditional written diary, Julia Kaye has always turned to art as a means of self-reflection. So when she began her gender transition in 2016, she decided to use her popular webcomic, Up and Out, to process her journey and help others with similar struggles realize they weren't alone. Julia's poignant, relatable comics honestly depict her personal ups and downs while dealing with the various issues involved in transitioning-- from struggling with self-acceptance and challenging societal expectations, to moments of self-love and joy. Super Late Bloomer both educates and inspires, as Julia faces her difficulties head-on and commits to being wholly, authentically who she was always meant to be"--Page 4 of cover

Inhalt: Traces the revolutionary spirit that runs through American history, and whose founding father and greatest advocate was Thomas Paine, showing how Paine turned Americans into radicals--and how we have remained radicals at heart ever since. Paine was one of the most remarkable political writers of the modern world, and the greatest radical of a radical age. Through his writings, he not only turned America's colonial rebellion into a revolutionary war but, as Kaye demonstrates, articulated an American identity charged with purpose and promise. Beginning with Paine's life and ideas and following their influence through to our own day, Kaye reveals how, while the powers that be repeatedly sought to suppress, defame, and co-opt Paine's memory, generations of radical and liberal Americans have turned to Paine for inspiration as they endeavored to expand American freedom, equality, and democracy.--From publisher description.
