Content: "Laszlo Moholy-Nagy is the first monograph on Moholy to attend to the fraught but central role painting played in shaping his aesthetic project. His reputation has been that of an artist far more interested in exploring the possibilities offered by photography, film, and other new media than in working with what he once called the 'anachronistic' medium of painting. And yet, with the exception of the period between 1928 and 1930, Moholy painted throughout his career. Joyce Tsai argues that his investment in painting, especially after 1930, emerged not only out of pragmatic and aesthetic considerations, but also out of a growing recognition of the economic, political, and ethical compromises required by his large-scale, technologically mediated projects aimed at reforming human vision. Without abandoning his commitment to fostering what he called New Vision, Moholy came to understand painting as a particularly plastic field in which the progressive possibilities of photography, film and other emergent media could find provisional expression."--Provided by publisher

Content: Taiwan is located at the convergent boundary between the Philippine Sea plate and the continental margin of the Eurasian plate. The collision by oblique plate convergence began at around 5 to 6 million years and is ongoing with  continual crustal shortening and widespread seismic activities. As a result Taiwan has very diverse environmental conditions and consists of five geologic provinces from west to east namely the coastal plain, western foothills, central range, longitudinal valley and coastal range.  Besides this there is also  the elevation change from sea level to about 4000 meter above sea level. This book presents a comprehensive and up-to-date overview on the soils of Taiwan which includes sections on soil research, history, climate, geology, geomorphology, major soil types, soil maps, soil properties, soil classification, soil fertility, land use and vegetation, soil management, soils and humans, soils and industry as well as future soil issues. It summarizes what is known about the soils in Taiwan in a concise and highly reader-friendly way which makes this latest volume in the World Soil series accessible to a broad audience.
Note: Pedosphere and soil resources -- Soil formation factors and soil environmental conditions -- Soil function -- The general characteristics and distribution of major soil groups -- Soil characteristics, pedogenesis and utilization of major soil groups -- Soil degradation and soil conservation -- Soil survey and soil information system.

Content: Asthma is a severe and growing threat affecting both children and adults in both developing and developed world, currently affecting approximately 8% of US population. It is becoming increasingly recognized as a syndrome constituted by airway obstruction, airway hyperresponsiveness, and airway inflammation with different causes, associated risk factors, and underlying pathophysiology. The advances in basic and clinical research of asthma have accelerated over the past 20 years with increasing diagnostic tools, especially biomarkers, that led to specific characterization of individual patient's asthma pathophysiology, or disease ""phenotype"" and ""endotype,"" which allowed precision medicine therapies, including new asthma biologics. This book aims to update the paradigm shifts in precision medicine of asthma diagnosis and management, driven by underlying phenotypes or endotypes.

Series Statement: Comparative perspectives in business history
Content: China's stunning growth rates have corresponded with the rise of 'state capitalism'. Since the mid-2000s, China's political economy has stabilized around a model where most sectors are marketized and increasingly integrated with the global economy; yet strategic industries remain firmly in the grasp of an elite empire of state-owned enterprises. What are the implications of state capitalism for industrial competitiveness, corporate governance, government-business relations, and domestic welfare? How does China's model of state capitalism compare with other examples of state-directed development in late industrializing countries? As China enters a phase of more modest growth, it is especially timely to understand how its institutions have adapted to new challenges and party-state priorities. In this volume, leading scholars of China's economy, politics, history, and society explore these compelling issues.
