Im fernen Indien lebte einst der kleine, schwarze Hund Kala. Gern streift er mit der stolzen, weissen Hündin Lakshmi durch den Dschungel. Einmal gelangen sie zu einem von Pflanzen überwucherten Tempel. Mit klopfendem Herzen wagt sich Kala hinein. Er gelangt in einen Saal, wo er auf einen 2. und noch weitere schwarze Hunde trifft, die ihn mit funkelnden Augen anknurren. Entsetzt flieht er. Die zu Hilfe geholte Lakshmi entdeckt, sich drehend und mit dem Schwanz wedelnd, ebenfalls andere, aber hellfarbene, freundlich wedelnde Hunde. Gelassen erklärt sie Kala, dass sie in einem Spiegelsaal seien. Aus ihrem Erlebnis könne er etwas lernen: Wer Angst hat im Leben, dem begegnen auch Angst und Misstrauen. Dem Freundlichen dagegen strahlt die Welt freundlich zurück. Die einleuchtende, aber etwas plump aufgetragene Moral, eine "Weisheit" aus einem indischen Märchen, ist in eine schlichte Geschichte gebettet.
