Content: Extras: - Commentary with Richard Schickel: Film critic Schickel discusses the film as a fan who has seen it many times, but his commentary lacks the detailed presentation that one might expect from a scholar like Jeffrey Vance. Most of Schickel's historical points (e.g., the animosity between Dean and Massey) are covered in the "Art in Search of Life" feature. His primary contribution in the commentary is an evaluation of the performances and direction. - Forever James Dean (480i; 1.33:1; 59:50): This 1988 documentary narrated by Bob Gunton is valuable primarily for its compilation of archival photographs and interviews with childhood acquaintances and other interview subjects who are probably no longer alive. But one doesn't get a strong sense of who Dean was or what made him distinctive. - East of Eden: Art in Search of Life (480i; 1.33:1; 19:31): This documentary short was made in 2005 for Warner's two-disc special edition DVD. It includes informative interviews with Steinbeck's son, Thomas, and Susan Schillinglaw of the Center for Steinbeck Studies, as wel as Schickel, Kazan, Harris and others (many via archive footage). - Screen Tests (480i; 1.33:1; 6:21): Dean and Davalos. - Costumes and Production Design (1:38). - Deleted Scenes (480i; 2.35:1, non-enhanced; 19:15): Two variations of a conversation between Cal and Aron. Six versions of a scene between Cal and Abra while they await Adam Trask for a birthday celebration. - 3/9/55 NYC Premiere (480i; 1.33:1; 14:42): With appearances by Steinbeck, Kazan, Massey and many others. - Theatrical Trailer (480i; 2.35:1, non-enhanced; 2:54): What's notable about the trailer is how much effort has been made to sensationalize the story. Content: After his earth shattering Bicycle Thieves, Vittorio De Sica and long time screenwriter Cesare Zavattini turned their neo-realist ideas to something much more like a fable yet retaining the core ideas behind the revolutionary cinema movement. Miracle in Milan went on to wow critics and audiences, winning the Grand Prize of the Cannes Film Festival in 1951. Always in the shadow of the ever more popular Bicycle Thieves, this largely unsung masterpiece tends toward magic realism to imagine a place where society̷s most downtrodden can find purchase and possible escape from misery. Set within a fantastically theatrical shantytown, Miracle in Milan constructs an alternate world from De Sica and Zavattini̷s fascination with marginalised perspectives. The unusual use of deliberate artifice and spectacle rekindles the Meliesian magical aura of early cinema. Arrow Academy is pleased to present a new HD transfer of the film along with De Sica̷s Il Tetto in this deluxe edition.
Content: Extras: - High Definition Blu-ray and Standard Definition DVD presentation of the film - Full length feature: Il Tetto [The Roof], Vittorio De Sica's 1956 film also written by Zavattini, made available for the first time in the UK on DVD - Newly translated and more complete optional English subtitles on both features - Interview with Manuel De Sica - Interview with star Brunella Bovo - Rome Premiere Newsreel Footage - Original Trailer - Comprehensive booklet including brand new writing on Miracle in Milan and Il Tetto by critic Pasquale Iannone, a re-print of John Maddison's 1951 article The Case of De Sica, illustrated with original stills and artwork.

Series Statement: Universal monsters collection : [BD]
Content: Extras: Now You See Him: The Invisible Man Revealed (SD, 35 minutes): The Invisible Man is put under the microscope in this Rudy Behlmer-hosted documentary pulled from the previously released DVD. Behlmer and other film historians and guests (actor Ian McKellen among them) weigh in on the movie and its production (tidbits include H.G. Wells' insistence that Universal stick to his book more than the studio had with Island of Lost Souls), as well as its themes, characters, performances, frights, practical effects and, of course, the monster of a man at the heart of the tale. Audio Commentary: Another Behlmer commentary, another undeniable thorough but unmistakably stocky reading of a pre-written, 71-minute film essay. With so much information to share, it's no wonder Behlmer jotted it all down ahead of time. It's just a shame he reads verbatim rather than referring to notes. Some freedom would make for a more passionate, personable commentary. 100 Years of Universal: Unforgettable Characters (HD, 8 minutes): A who's who of Universal's most recognizable, in some cases immortal characters. And not just classic horror characters either. Production Photographs (SD, 5 minutes): Movie posters, campaign art, production stills and other images. Trailer Gallery (SD, 4 minutes): The Invisible Man Returns and Invisible Agent.
