Die 17-jährige Gwen lebt mit ihrem Vater in New York. 10 Jahre zuvor ist ihre Mutter bei einem Attentat ums Leben gekommen. Der Vater reist als Diplomat durch die ganze Welt, die beiden müssen häufig umziehen. Als er auf einer Geschäftsreise plötzlich verschwindet, erfährt Gwen, dass er eigentlich ein CIA-Agent ist. Trotzdem stellt die CIA die Suche nach ihm schnell ein. Gwen recherchiert auf eigene Faust und fliegt nach Paris um ihn zu suchen. Tatsächlich findet sie heraus, dass er gekidnappt wurde, und nimmt Kontakt zu den Drahtziehern auf. Der amerikanische Autor arbeitete in einer Werbeagentur. Sein Debüt überzeugt sprachlich mit eindringlichen Beschreibungen sowohl von Situationen und Gefühlen als auch von Räumen und Städten. Die Story selbst, mit einem 17-jährigen Mädchen, das quer durch Europa reist, Kontakte zu Mafiabossen knüpft und diese teilweise im Kampf überwältigt, ist zwar ziemlich überzogen aber gut gemacht. Der Thriller ist in der Ich-Form aus der Perspektive von Gwen geschrieben, sehr spannend und absolut empfehlenswert, auch für Jugendliche ab 16 Jahren. Brigitta Wenzel
