Er stärkt den Gemeinschaftssinn, organisiert die Futterbeschaffung für alle und kümmert sich um Kranke. Doch immer noch ist Zoodirektor Müller hinter seinem Pelz her und gefährdet sein Leben. Bei einem Besuch im Naturkundemuseum, wo Hamlet etwas über die Herkunft seines Freundes Oskar zu erfahren hofft, kann er seinem Verfolger nur knapp entgehen. Aber ein Gutes hat der Ausflug: Das arme Schnabeltier weiss zwar immer noch nicht, wer es ist, doch Bilder von der Arche Noah in einer Kirche animieren die Gruppe dazu, ein Schiff zu bauen und damit alle Tiere aus dem gefährdeten Paradies in ihre angestammte Heimat, die sie gerade im Museum gesehen haben, zu bringen (aber erst im nächsten Band). Die Geschichte wird trotz Spannung sentimentaler und grotesker, doch bleibt die konsequente Verfechtung des Tierschutzgedankens speziell bei Wildtierhaltung und die Vermittlung der Idee, dass Gemeinsamkeit stark macht.
