Vor 100 Jahren begann der Erste Weltkrieg, diese "Urkatastrophe" des 20. Jahrhunderts. F. Marc, der Maler der blauen Pferde, der mit W. Kandinsky den Künstlerkreis "Der Blaue Reiter" gründete, meldete sich gleich bei der Mobilmachung als Freiwilliger. Er hielt den Krieg für einen "heilsamen, wenn auch grausamen Durchgang" in eine bessere Zeit. ID-B 42/11) -, erzählt in kurzen, überschaubaren Kapiteln vom Kriegsverlauf an der Westfront, wo Marc 1916 zu Tode kam, von seinen künstlerischen Vorstellungen, seinen Eindrücken und Gedanken als Soldat und dem zunehmenden Hin- und Hergerissensein zwischen Hoffnung und Verzweiflung. Begleitet wird der Text von farbkräftigen Bildern R. Kleists, Jugendliteraturpreisträger 2013 (s.
