Nach wie vor betrachten sich die USA grundsätzlich als die Guten - selbst dann, wenn sie das Gleiche tun wie jene Staaten, denen sie Böses unterstellen: Zivilflugzeuge abschießen, willkürlich Leute inhaftieren und umbringen, in fremde Länder einmarschieren und neue politische Systeme inthronisieren. Dafür nehmen sie unter anderem auch in Kauf, dass die Existenz der Menschheit bedroht wird wie nie zuvor. Die Republikaner leugnen nach wie vor die Klimaerwärmung. Das Primat der militärischen Intervention und der unerbittlichen Drang, alleinige Weltmacht zu bleiben, bilden die Konstanten der amerikanischen Politik. Im Land selbst haben die Reichen und Mächtigen fast freie Hand, jenseits demokratischer Kontrollen, u.a. weil die Politiker seit ihrer Wahlkampagnen hoch verschuldet sind. Den Wirtschaftsmächtigen geht es nur um Gewinnmaximierung und Einflussmaximierung - die weltweite Bedrohung durch Klimawandel und Atomarsenale nehmen sie in Kauf, weil sie Rendite und Gewinn erbringen müssen. Der Autor fragt, wohin diese Einstellung, diese Macht eines gewissenlosen Staates hinführt. In dem Band werden die Folgen solcher imperialen Politik der USA beschrieben.
