In Seekarten dient die Darstellung der Bodentopographie der Sicherung der Schiffahrtswege. Außerhalb, und besonders in flachen Gewässern zu Küsten hin, sind häufig hinreichende Planungsunterlagen nicht verfügbar. Es bietet sich an, wetterunabhängige Fernmeßverfahren für Aufgaben der schnellen Gebietserfassung zu untersuchen. In Küstengewässern zeichnen sich Bodenkonturen oft in Radarbildern ab, obwohl Radar nur die Rauhigkeit der Meeresoberfläche erfaßt. Die Übertragung vom Boden auf die Rauhigkeit ist durch Strömungsänderungen entlang des Bodenprofils bedingt. Es ist in derartigen Situationen prinzipell möglich, Bodenkonturen aus Radarbildern abzuschätzen. Die FWG beteiligte sich an dem Projekt C-STAR (Coastal Sediment Transport Assessment using SAR imagery) der Europäischen Kommission. In einem Experiment wurden Wind, Wellen, Strömungsprofile und Bodenprofile gemessen, Radarbilder wurden von der DLR aufgenommen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen deutliche Beziehungen zwischen Bodenstruktur, Oberflächenrauhigkeit und Radarintensität auf. Es werden die Beiträge zur Konferenz IGARRS ´99, Hamburg (International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium) wiedergegeben. (MOD)
