Inhalt: Joey Harker hat eine massive Orientierungsschwäche, das weiß er - doch als er sich diesmal verläuft, ändert sich sein Leben grundlegend. Er wird in eine andere Dimension versetzt, begegnet vielen Variationen seiner selbst, wird bestens ausgebildet (entdeckt dabei neue Talente an sich), bewährt sich in zahlreichen lebensgefährlichen Abenteuern und Kämpfen gegen schier übermächtige Gegner und nimmt schließlich seine neue Aufgabe als "Wandler" zwischen den Parallelwelten an. Der bekannte und mehrfach preisgekrönte Roman-, Comic- und Kinderbuchautor hat sich hier mit dem Drehbuchschreiber M. Reaves zusammengetan und die beiden haben eine seit 1995 in ihren Köpfen ruhende Idee in diesen Fantasy-Roman umgesetzt. Auch wenn diesmal der Plot weder neu noch in ganzer Konsequenz ausgearbeitet ist, das Ganze wie eine Art "Pilotroman" für eine Abenteuerserie anmutet, hat das Buch genügend Substanz, die Handlung ist rasant, abwechslungsreich und spannend. Zwar nicht Gaimans bestes Werk, doch immer noch über dem Durchschnitt und deshalb empfohlen.
