Den vielfach ausgezeichneten Schauspieler Armin Mueller-Stahl, geboren 1930 im ostpreußischen Tilsit, kann man mit Fug und Recht als gesamtdeutschen Künstler bezeichnen. Aufgewachsen im brandenburgischen Prenzlau, übersiedelte er 1980 in die Bundesrepublik. Hier legt er seine Autobiografie vor.

Der Band hat eine ungewöhnliche und leider nicht ganz unproblematische Form. Er ist "aufgeschrieben von Andreas Hallaschka", dem "Merian"-Chefredakteur. Im Druckbild sieht das so aus, dass eine Art "Mueller-Stahl"-Monolog häufig unterbrochen wird von anders gesetzten, ziemlich beflissen klingenden Zusatzinformationen des "Aufschreibers". An vielen Stellen wünscht man sich allerdings, er hätte lieber genauer nachgefragt, warum etwa eine bestimmte Inszenierung "verhunzt", eine andere dagegen "großartig" war. Auch so erfährt man noch genug Wissenswertes über Mueller-Stahls Gefühl des Unwohlseins in seinen 3 deutschen Staaten und seine Zeit als Hollywood-Star. Am ergiebigsten sind die Ausführungen zur DDR-Kulturpolitik, auch wenn er manches davon bereits in seinen Memoiren berichtete (BA 5/97). Je konkreter der "eigentlich unpolitische" Schauspieler dabei wird, desto interessanter klingt er. Über lange Passagen wünscht man sich aber doch immer wieder, statt dieser Mischform entweder einen stilistisch abwechslungsreicher komponierten eigenen Text Mueller-Stahls oder ein richtiges Interviewbuch zu lesen.
