Resultat sind Aggressivität, Unkonzentriertheit, Hyperaktivität etc. Stuart Shanker ist Professor für Psychologie und Philosophie und hat eine Technik entwickelt, wie diese Kinder entspannen können und lernen, sich selbst zu regulieren. Der Beginn des Buches ist recht wissenschaftlich, neue neurowissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse werden aufgeführt, ebenso werden Hirnstrukturen näher erläutert. In Teil 2 werden 5 Faktoren (von Shanker Domänen genannt) der Selbstregulierung intensiv beleuchtet. Teil 3 behandelt Verhalten der Kinder in der Pubertät. Das Buch erklärt psychologisch, warum Kinder wie reagieren, es ist weniger ein Erziehungsratgeber, eher ein psychologischer Ratgeber. Shankers Methode zielt darauf ab, die Stressfaktoren des Kindes zu erkennen und diese zu reduzieren, vor allem durch zur Ruhe kommen und Energie tanken. Als Buch zur Verhaltenserklärung durchaus lesens- und anschaffenswert, für einen Erziehungsratgeber wird auf die wissenschaftlichen Studien zu intensiv eingegangen (fast 30 Seiten Literatur und Quellenangaben).

Die vom Autor entwickelte Methode zielt darauf ab, die Stressfaktoren des Kindes zu erkennen und diese zu reduzieren. Ebenso werden die Stärken der Kinder gefördert und ihre Fähigkeiten aufgebaut. Damit wird dann auch unerwünschtes Verhalten verhindert.
