Albert ist 16 Jahre alt. Seine liebste Beschäftigung ist es, am Bahnhof Menschen zu fotografieren, während diese sich gerade voneinander verabschieden. Dabei lernt er nicht nur die aus heruntergekommenen Verhältnissen stammende Kati kennen, sondern befreundet sich auch noch mit zahlreichen anderen eindringlichen Figuren aus dem Drogen-Milieu rund um den Bahnhof. Er und Kati verlieben sich ineinander und machen sich auf die Suche nach der Geschichte eines ganz bestimmten Fotos: auf dem Katis verstorbene Schwester zu sehen ist. Trotz aller Melancholie der Geschichte sprüht der Autor geradezu vor mitreissender Empathie für junge Aussenseiter und erzählt mit so viel Respekt vom Rand der Gesellschaft, dass eine ganz erstaunliche Glaubwürdigkeit vermittelt wird. "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" trifft auf romantische Liebe. Die Geschichte wird getragen von Verzweiflung und Hoffnung zugleich. Das vom Verlag angegebene Alter 13 halte ich allerdings für zu jung. Ein überaus gelungener Jugendroman, der jugendliche Leser auf Augenhöhe anspricht. Grosse Empfehlung für alle Bestände. Ab 14
