Der Jasminhof im Titel des 1934 erschienenen Romans ist das Anwesen der verwitweten Lady Midhurst an der französischen Riviera in der Nähe von Grasse. So wird die rurale Retraite der Markgräfin wenigstens in den Gesellschaftsnachrichten der Zeitungen bezeichnet. Als Mrs. DeLacy im Evening Standard liest, Lady Midhurst habe sich auf dieses Anwesen zurückgezogen, sieht sie eine palastartige Rivieravilla am Strand vor sich, fröhlich gestreifte Markisen, Krüge mit Geranien, livrierte Diener, die Erfrischungen reichen, und natürlich ein Orchester, das zum Dinner aufspielt. Sofort macht sie sich auf und reist der Markgräfin hinterher, nimmt sich nur noch Zeit, diese tief ausgeschnittenen Pyjamas zu erwerben, die den Illustrierten zufolge der letzte Schrei an der Riviera sind.
