Inhalt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed conference proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on Biomedical Simulation (ISBMS) which was held in Strasbourg, France, in October 2014. Biomedical modeling and simulation are at the center stage of worldwide efforts to understand and replicate the behavior and function of the human organism. Large scale initiatives such as the Physiome Project, Virtual Physiological Human and Blue Brain Project aim to develop advanced computational models that will facilitate the understanding of the integrative function of cells, organs, and organisms, with the ultimate goal of delivering truly personalized medicine. At the same time, progress in modeling, numerical techniques and haptics has enabled more complex and interactive simulations. The 27 revised full papers (including 16 regular and 11 short papers) were carefully selected from 45 submissions and cover topics such as training systems and haptics, physics-based registration, vascular modeling and simulation, image and simulation, modeling, surgical planning, analysis, characterization and validation.
Anmerkung: Training Systems and Haptics -- Physics-based Registration -- Vascular Modelling and Simulation -- Image and Simulation -- Surgical Planning Modelling -- Analysis, Characterisation and Validation.

Inhalt: This State-of-the-Art Survey constitutes the Final Publication of the COST Action IC1002 on Multilingual and Multifaceted Interactive Information Access, MUMIA. It contains outstanding research, recent developments and new directions in all related aspects of multifaceted and interactive information access with a focus on professional and enterprise search. The contributions are grouped in the following three parts: frameworks, models and theory; tools, applications and practice; and patent search. The Intellectual Property (IP) domain is used through the book as a primary case study. The book aims to bring together material which has been published in a fragmentary way in journals and conference papers into a coherent whole but also present novel, unpublished work where appropriate.

Inhalt: Replication is a topic of interest in the distributed computing, distributed systems, and database communities. Although these communities have traditionally looked at replication from different viewpoints and with different goals (e.g., performance versus fault tolerance), recent developments have led to a convergence of these different goals. The objective of this state-of-the-art survey is not to speculate about the future of replication, but rather to understand the present, to make an assessment of approximately 30 years of research on replication, and to present a comprehensive view of the achievements made during this period of time. This book is the outcome of the seminar entitled A 30-Year Perspective on Replication, which was held at Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland, in November 2007. The book is organized in 13 self-contained chapters written by most of the people who have contributed to developing state-of-the-art replication techniques. It presents a comprehensive view of existing solutions, from a theoretical as well as from a practical point of view. It covers replication of processes/objects and of databases; replication for fault tolerance and replication for performance - benign faults and malicious (Byzantine) faults - thus forming a basis for both professionals and students of distributed computing, distributed systems, and databases.
Anmerkung: Consistency Models for Replicated Data -- Replication Techniques for Availability -- Modular Approach to Replication for Availability -- Stumbling over Consensus Research: Misunderstandings and Issues -- Replicating for Performance: Case Studies -- A History of the Virtual Synchrony Replication Model -- From Viewstamped Replication to Byzantine Fault Tolerance -- Implementing Trustworthy Services Using Replicated State Machines -- State Machine Replication with Byzantine Faults -- Selected Results from the Latest Decade of Quorum Systems Research -- From Object Replication to Database Replication -- Database Replication: A Tutorial -- Practical Database Replication.
