Series Statement: Progress in neurological surgery Vol. 19
Content: 'Guiding Neurosurgery' by Evidence provides its readers with a succinct review of contemporary neurosurgical practice when evaluated by evidence-based medicine standards. It begins with an introduction of the concept and principles of evidence-based medicine. The subsequent chapters address the topics of brain tumor epidemiology, benign adult brain tumors, pediatric neurosurgery, endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, lumbar spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, trauma, and the treatment of chronic pain disorders by neurostimulation. Content: Introduction: Lazarus and the modern world / Max Silverman -- Lazarean dreams ; Lazarean literature / Jean Cayrol -- Lazarean writing in post-war France / Patrick ffrench -- The perpetual anxiety of Lazarus : the gaze, the tomb and the body in the shroud / Griselda Pollock -- Concentrationary art and the reading of everyday life : (in)human spaces in Chantal Akerman's Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles / Max Silverman -- Cinematic work as concentrationary art in Ressources humaines (Laurent--Cantet, 1999) / Matthew John -- After haunting : a conceptualization of the Lazarean image / Benjamin Hannavy Cousen -- Lazarean sound : the autonomy of the auditory from Hanns Eisler (Nuit et Brouillard, 1955) to Susan Philipsz (Night and fog, 2016) / Griselda Pollock -- Concluding remarks / Griselda Pollock.
Content: "Largely forgotten over the years, the seminal work of French poet, novelist and camp survivor Jean Cayrol has experienced a revival in the French-speaking world since his death in 2005. His concept of a concentrationary art--the need for an urgent and constant aesthetic resistance to the continuing effects of the concentrationary universe--proved to be a major influence for Hannah Arendt and other writers and theorists across a number of disciplines. Concentrationary Art presents the first translation into English of Jean Cayrol's key essays on the subject, as well as the first book-length study of how we might situate and elaborate his concept of a Lazarean aesthetic in cultural theory, literature, cinema, music and contemporary art"--

Series Statement: Bilingual Processing and Acquisition volume 10
Content: This book focuses exclusively on child bilinguals or children exposed to a second language in various learning contexts. Through the presentation of research on how children learn the sound systems or lexicon in two languages and via different routes, the book aims to paint a comprehensive picture of child bilingualism and second language learning. In addition, the book features contributions focused on theoretical overviews and methodological approaches. Researchers from diverse disciplines such as linguistics, psychology, and speech-language pathology contributed to the book that thus represents an effort to integrate multiple views and perspectives. The book is useful for researchers, clinicians, and educators who work with children acquiring or learning a second language in different settings. It should also be of interest to university students studying bilingualism and/or second language acquisition or parents raising bilingual children.

Series Statement: The early modern exchange
Content: Johan Huizinga’s much-loved and much-contested Autumn of the Middle Ages, first published in 1919, encouraged an image of the Late French Middle Ages as a flamboyant but empty period of decline and nostalgia. Many studies, particularly literary studies, have challenged Huizinga’s perceptions of individual works or genres. Still, the vision of the Late French and Burgundian Middle Ages as a sad transitional phase between the High Middle Ages and the Renaissance persists. Yet, a series of exceptionally significant cultural developments mark the period. The Waxing of the Middle Ages sets out to provide a rich, complex, and diverse study of these developments and to reassert that late medieval France is crucial in its own right. The collection argues for an approach that views the late medieval period not as an afterthought, or a blind spot, but as a period that is key in understanding the fluidity of time, traditions, culture, and history. Each essay explores some “cultural form,” to borrow Huizinga’s expression, to expose the false divide that has dominated modern scholarship
