Pierre Bourdieu hat sich seit seiner Studienzeit mit dem deutschen Geistesleben auseinandergesetzt. Er nahm Anregungen von Husserl, Max Weber, Marx, Cassirer und Panofsky auf und widmete Martin Heidegger eine kritische Studie. Er trat aber auch in Kontakt zu Forschern an deutschen Universitäten. So galt sein Interesse seit der Gründung (1989) dem Freiburger Frankreich-Zentrum. Hier intervenierte er mehrmals mit bedeutenden Beiträgen. Die Texte dieser Interventionen sind hier versammelt; bis auf einen Text werden alle Vorträge hier erstmals in deutscher Übersetzung vorgelegt. Die Sammlung wird abgerundet mit einer Würdigung von Bourdieus Lebensweg und Lebenswerk sowie einer systematischen Bibliographie aller seiner Texte in deutscher Übersetzung
