Räumliche Planungsprozesse bergen im Großen wie im Kleinen eine Vielzahl an Herausforderungen. Trotz neuer Techniken und Methoden zur Teilhabe am Planungsprozess ist und bleibt jedoch das Wichtigste, dass der Mensch im Mittelpunkt aller Planungen steht. Die Ergebnisse dieser Untersuchung liefern eine Blaupause für die Optimierung räumlicher Planungsprozesse und zeigen am Beispiel von Dorferneuerungen, wie diese mit Hilfe von (Geo-)Medien gelingen können. Dabei bietet das Buch nicht nur einen Überblick über die unterschiedlichen Formen der Partizipation und die Anforderungen an aktuelle Partizipationsprozesse, sondern liefert auch einen geographischen Ansatz zur Optimierung partizipativer räumlicher Planungsprozesse. Dafür werden die Architektur, das Framework und die Anwendungsinfrastruktur der eingesetzten digitalen Beteiligungsplattform vorgestellt und gezeigt, wie ein Public Participation Geographic Information System (PPGIS) in unterschiedlichen Case Studies funktionieren kann. Zudem ist es ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der Arbeit, ein Modell von Partizipationsstadien zu entwickeln, welches die neuesten Innovationen einer multimedialen räumlichen Planung integriert und die Ableitung einer neuen Methodik für Planungsprozesse erlaubt
