Abstract:
An attempt to characterize iberian alpine newt populations, Triturus alpestris cyreni Wolterstorff, 1932 (Caudata, Salamandridae). Historical, electrophoretical and ecological data. — The scope of this paper is a first evolutive characterization of Iberian allopatric alpine newt populations (Triturus alpestris cyreni). Four loci have been compared (LDH, EST, CAR, ALB) between populations from Spain, France and Yugoslavia. The Iberian population shows four diagnostic genes and the Yugoslavian population three, with respect to the other populations studied. The three french populations are quite homogenous. The main ecological characteristics of Iberian alpine newt as well as the relations which appear to exist with T. helveticus and T. marmoratus have been delineated. These ecological data are used to support an intepretation of the recoloniza-tion patterns of Cantabrian Moutains by alpine newts in post-würmian times.
