Abstract: Infrarot-(IR)-Rezeptoren bei Insekten sind bisher nur bei Vertretern von drei Käfer- und einer Wanzengattung gefunden worden, die alle Waldbrände anfiegen und daher als pyrophil bezeichnet werden. Auf den frischen Brandfächen dienen die IR-Rezeptoren als Frühwarnsysteme, mit deren Hilfe eine Landung auf einer heißen Stelle vermieden werden kann. Bei Prachtkäfern der Gattung Melanophila gibt es jedoch Hinweise darauf, dass die IR-Rezeptoren auch zur Ortung von Waldbränden aus größeren Entfernungen dienen können. Da sich die pyrophile Lebensweise bei den vier Gattungen unabhängig voneinander entwickelt hat, gibt es auch keinen „Standard-IR-Rezeptor“. So haben sich bei Melanophila-Käfern und pyrophilen Aradus-Rindenwanzen auf Mechanosensorik basierende, sogenannte photomechanische IR-Rezeptoren entwickelt.
