Content: In the monograph results of long-term ground and remote sensing experimental and theoretical investigations of heat-water exchange of typical permafrost landscapes and small river basins of Eastern Siberia and its factors situated in subarctic tundra, plain taiga and southern mountain taiga are generalized. Detailed maps of landscape structure of range grounds as well as results of analysis of wide range of parameters and variables of permafrost landscapes characterizing spatial and temporal variability of their state in daily, seasonal and long-term scales are presented. Zonal-landscape features of heat and water exchange as well as water regime of small river basins have been revealed. Spatial distribution of vertical turbulent heat and moisture flows in the boundary layer of the atmosphere above heterogeneous surface by measurements from board a plane has been investigated. Spatial and temporal analysis of thermo- and water-physical properties of perennially frozen grounds, which are applied as parameters in hydro-climatic models, has been fulfilled. Processes of interaction of surface and underground waters on plain and in the mountains have been considered, as well as cryogenic phenomena, which have considerable impact upon water regime of rivers and permafrost landscapes.

Content: This volume contains the extended abstracts submitted to the International Geocryological Conference "The Present and Future of Geocryology" from Russia, Germany, Japan, China, Mongolia, Sweden and the USA. This Conference is organized to commemorate the 100th birthday of Pavel I. Melnikov (1908-1994), Full Member of the USSR and Russian Academy of Sciences, who was one of the pioneers of geocryological science, founder and first director of the Permafrost Institute at Yakutsk and first president of the International Permafrost Association. The conference papers discuss the issues related to regional and historical geocryology; periglacial processes and forms; hydrology and hydrogeology in cold regions; landscape dynamics and permafrost evolution under the effects of climate change and human activities; and stability of engineering structures built on frozen ground. This volume is intended for researchers, students and post-graduates to help them efficiently solve the current geocryological problems and devise future research lines.

Content: Dieser Ausstellungskatalog vereint zwei Werke, die auf einem gegenseitigen Ausstellungsprojekt des Museums Altes Zeughaus Solothurn und der Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg basieren: 1) Marco A R. Leutenegger: Zwischen Politik und Krieg - wehrhafte Eidgenossen im 16 Jahrundert. 2) Alfred Geibig: Der Herzöge Lust - Jagdwaffen am Coburger Hof. Die Ausstellung "Zwischen Politik und Krieg. Wehrhafte Eidgenossen im 16 Jahrhundert" und damit auch der Katalogteil gliedern sich in fünf Themen. Das erste zeigt die Veränderung der Stadtbefestigung durch die Wirkung der Feuerwaffen. Das zweite Thema weist auf die Stärken und Schwächen der damaligen Eidgenossenschaft als Staatenbund hin. Das dritte Thema behandelt die Bündnis bedingte Verwicklung der eidgenössischen Orte in die europäischen Streitigkeiten. Das vierte und umfangreichste Thema bietet einen Einblick in die Sammlung des Solothurner Zeughauses. Ausführlich werden in diesem Teil die Exponate der Ausstellung, besonders die Harnische aus dem 16 Jahrhundert, präsentiert. Und das fünfte Thema gibt einen knappen Einblick in die Wehrorganisation des Stadtstaates. Im Katalogteil von Alfred Geibig werden die Jagdwaffen aus ehemalig herzoglichem Besitz der Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg vorgestellt, die in der Ausstellung "Der Herzöge Lust" im Museum Altes Zeughaus Solothurn gezeigt werden.(AUT)
