Im Jahr 2015 wurde zwischen dem Dalai Lama und Desmond Tutu ein Treffen vereinbart, das neben der Feier zum 80. Geburtstag des Dalai Lama einen 5-tägigen "Workshop" vorsah, der ergründen sollte, wie man angesichts des Leidens in der Welt innere Freude finden kann. Die persönlichen Erfahrungen wurden eingebracht, viele Anekdoten erzählt und zahlreiche Untersuchungen aus den Neurowissenschaften und der Psychologie zitiert. Douglas Abrams hat die Gespräche redigiert und als Erzähler den Ablauf des Treffens geschildert. Als Anhang wird eine Reihe von spirituellen Übungen vorgestellt, die Hindernisse bei der Verwirklichung von Freude beseitigen können.
