Grosser unter den niederländischen Autoren, Francois Valentyn 1), hat ihm eine Episode entlehnt, nämlich wo er (zum Jahr 1680) von einer Gesandtschaft an den Kaiser von Kandi und von zwei aus dessen Gefangenschaft entflohenen Engländern berichtet. Schade, aber es muss festgestellt werden: Schweitzer macht sich hier wichtiger als er ist und bringt Valentyn auf falsche Fährte. Die beiden Engländer können niemand anders gewesen sein als Robert Knox und Stephen Nuttall, die, aus der Gefangenschaft entflohen, im Oktober 1679 in Aripo ankamen, nicht in Sitavaca, wo Schweitzer damals in Quartier lag. Das lässt sich kontrollieren, und zwar durch die eignen Memoiren von Knox 2), der neunzehn Jahre lang des Kaisers Gefangener gewesen war und im Juni 1681 seine Erinnerungen herausgab. Dass Schweitzer, der selhst auf Ceylon war, über die heiden Flüchtlinge hat reden hören, das lasst sich vernünftigerweise nicht bezweifeln, aher dass er sie im Juni 1680 gesehen, gesprochen und begleitet habe, kann nach Knox' Zeugnis über seine Ankunft in Aripo als widerlegt gelten. Im übrigen strebt Schweitzer nach einer gewissen oberflächlichen chronologischen Genauigkeit, er ist nämlich recht verschwenderisch mit der Angabe von Daten und Perioden. Er hat nicht damit rechnen konnen, dass auch das offizielle Tagesregister der Festung Batavia, nach über zweihundert Jahren, durch den Druck bekannt gemacht werden würde.
