"Der vorliegende Band untersucht auf der Basis einer internationalen Tagung (2019) die Niederlassungen der Kapuziner in Österreich. Im Jahr 1618 holte Kaiserin Anna, die Gemahlin von Kaiser Matthias, den Kapuzinerorden nach Wien. Dieser prägte Spiritualität und Ausrichtung der Gegenreformation, auch aufgrund der grossen Nähe zum Kaiserhaus, wie kaum ein anderer Orden in der Frühen Neuzeit. Die Beiträge der Publikation nehmen die bisher wenig erforschten kulturellen Aktionsradien dieses franziskanischen Bettelordens in den Blick und beleuchten - ausgehend vom spirituellen und liturgischen Selbstverständnis der Kapuziner - die intensive Predigttätigkeit ebenso wie Architektur und Ausstattung der österreichischen Kirchen und Konvente.
