    Abstract: Silicon (Si) has been considered to be one of the most promising anode materials for high energy density lithium−ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical capacity, low discharge platform, abundant raw materials and environmental friendliness. However, the large volume changes, unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation during cycling and intrinsic low conductivity of Si hinder its practical applications. Various modification strategies have been widely developed to enhance the lithium storage properties of Si−based anodes, including cycling stability and rate capabilities. In this review, recent modification methods to suppress structural collapse and electric conductivity are summarized in terms of structural design, oxide complexing and Si alloys, etc. Moreover, other performance enhancement factors, such as pre−lithiation, surface engineering and binders are briefly discussed. The mechanisms behind the performance enhancement of various Si−based composites characterized by in/ex situ techniques are also reviewed. Finally, we briefly highlight the existing challenges and future development prospects of Si−based anode materials.

    Abstract: Geodetic mass changes in the Svalbard glaciers Austre Lovénbreen and Pedersenbreen were studied via high-precision real-time kinematic (RTK)-global positioning system (GPS) measurements from 2013 to 2015. To evaluate the elevation changes of the two Svalbard glaciers, more than 10,000 GPS records for each glacier surface were collected every year from 2013 to 2015. The results of several widely used interpolation methods (i.e., inverse distance weighting (IDW), ordinary kriging (OK), universal kriging (UK), natural neighbor (NN), spline interpolation, and Topo to Raster (TTR) interpolation) were compared. Considering the smoothness and accuracy of the glacier surface, NN interpolation was selected as the most suitable interpolation method to generate a surface digital elevation model (DEM). In addition, we compared two procedures for calculating elevation changes: using DEMs generated from the direct interpolation of the RTK-GPS points and using the elevation bias of crossover points from the RTK-GPS tracks in different years. Then, the geodetic mass balances were calculated by converting the elevation changes to their water equivalents. Comparing the geodetic mass balances calculated with and without considering snow depth revealed that ignoring the effect of snow depth, which differs greatly over a short time interval, might lead to bias in mass balance investigation. In summary, there was a positive correlation between the geodetic mass balance and the corresponding elevation. The mass loss increased with decreasing elevation, and the mean annual gradients of the geodetic mass balance along the elevation of Austre Lovénbreen and Pedersenbreen in 2013–2015 were approximately 2.60‰ and 2.35‰, respectively. The gradients at the glacier snouts were three times larger than those over the whole glaciers. Additionally, some mass gain occurred in certain high-elevation regions. Compared with a 2019 DEM generated from unmanned aerial vehicle measurement, the glacier snout areas presented an accelerating thinning situation in 2015–2019.

    Abstract: The dust-collection system, as the core of a sweeper vehicle, directly inhales dust particles on the pavement. The influence of variable operational conditions on particle-separation performance was investigated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) Euler–Lagrange multiphase model. The particle-separation performance efficiency and retention time were used to evaluate the dust-collection efficiency. The uniform design (UD) and multiple regression analysis (MRA) methods were employed to predict and optimize the effects of reverse-blowing flow rate, pressure drop, and traveling speed on separation efficiency. The results indicated that the dust-collection performance initially increased and then decreased with increasing reverse-blowing flow rate. As the pressure drop increased, there was an increase in total dust-collection efficiency. However, the efficiency decreased with increasing traveling speed. The regression model showed that the proposed approach was able to predict the particle collection efficiency accurately. In addition, the optimum operational conditions were obtained, namely a reverse-blowing flow rate of 2100 m3/h, a traveling speed of 5 km/h, and a pressure drop of 2400 Pa. The maximum particle-separation efficiency was 99.10%, which showed good agreement with the experimental results.

    Abstract: In the study of consumer behavior, we believe that a distinction should be made between the subjective mental activity of consumption and the objective process of consumption experience, and that the deviation and fluctuation of “decision utility” and the randomness of “experience utility” have essential effects on consumer behavior. For one thing, purchase often precedes experience, and consumers cannot precisely predict utility and its distribution but can only make decisions based on adaptive expectations. Secondly, there is often uncertainty in the experience of goods, making predictions more difficult. Thirdly, the revision of consumer decision utility is carried out through memory in an adaptive process. We introduce two stochastic forms of decision and experience utility functions and build a two-period model. In the model, consumers make decisions based on a pre-determined decision utility function in the first period and a randomly realized experience utility function in the second period. The analysis shows that the volatility of “decision utility” and “experience utility” affects consumers in opposite directions; the former may trigger expansionary consumption, while the latter makes consumers more cautious. Finally, the consumption behaviors in the model can be divided into 24 categories based on the dimensions of chance, systematicity, luck, and deviance, corresponding to various scenarios. The total number of consumer behavior categories is a full ranking of the size relationship of the four factors mentioned above, thus 24 categories. For example, when good luck is accompanied by chance underestimation versus systematic underestimation, it leads to a better process experience for the consumer.

    Abstract: A new pleuromutilin derivative, 22-(2-amino-phenylsulfanyl)-22-deoxypleuromutilin (amphenmulin), has been synthesized and proved excellent in vitro and in vivo efficacy than that of tiamulin against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), suggesting this compound may lead to a promising antibacterial agent to treat MRSA infections. In this study, the effectiveness and safety of amphenmulin were further investigated. Amphenmulin showed excellent antibacterial activity against MRSA (minimal inhibitory concentration = 0.0156~8 µg/mL) and performed time-dependent growth inhibition and a concentration-dependent postantibiotic effect (PAE). Acute oral toxicity test in mice showed that amphenmulin was a practical non-toxic drug and possessed high security as a new drug with the 50% lethal dose (LD50) above 5000 mg/kg. The pharmacokinetic properties of amphenmulin were then measured. After intravenous administration, the elimination half-life (T1/2), total body clearance (Clβ), and area under curve to infinite time (AUC0→∞) were 1.92 ± 0.28 h, 0.82 ± 0.09 L/h/kg, and 12.23 ± 1.35 μg·h/mL, respectively. After intraperitoneal administration, the T1/2, Clβ/F and AUC0→∞ were 2.64 ± 0.72 h, 4.08 ± 1.14 L/h/kg, and 2.52 ± 0.81 μg·h/mL, respectively, while for the oral route were 2.91 ± 0.81 h, 6.31 ± 2.26 L/h/kg, 1.67 ± 0.66 μg·h/mL, respectively. Furthermore, we evaluated the antimicrobial activity of amphenmulin in an experimental model of MRSA wound infection. Amphenmulin enhanced wound closure and promoted the healing of wound, which inhibited MRSA bacterial counts in the wound and decreased serum levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-6, and MCP-1.

    Abstract: Apple blue mold is a significant postharvest disease caused by Penicillium expansum. pH modification in colonized tissues leads to the production of organic substances, the modulation of enzymes, and then increases fungal pathogenicity. This study evaluated Penicillium expansum-inoculated apple fruits’ quality responding to pH treatments ranging from 2.5 to 8.5 and analyzed the reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism modulation in inoculated apple fruits at the same pH. The results showed that the fruit quality of the firmness, total soluble solids, and titratable acid displayed a quick loss at pHs 5.0 and 7.0, compared with 2.5 and 8.5. Similarly, higher disease incidence was observed at pHs 5.0 and 7.0. Apple fruits infected with P. expansum at pHs 2.5 and 8.5 had less content of O2•−, H2O2, and malondialdehyde (MDA); lower enzymatic activity of NADPH oxidase (NOX); and greater cell membrane integrity than those at pHs 5.0 and 7.0. The analysis of the antioxidant enzymatic activities showed upregulation of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), and glutathione reductase (GR) at pHs 2.5 and 8.5 compared with those at pHs 5.0 and 7.0. Similar trends were shown in ascorbic acid and glutathione. These results support the hypothesis that inoculated apple fruits at pHs 2.5 and 8.5 improve resistance to P. expansum by modulating ROS metabolism, compared with pHs 5.0 and 7.0.

    Abstract: Metastasis via lymphatic vessels or blood vessels is the leading cause of death for breast cancer, and lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis are critical prerequisites for the tumor invasion–metastasis cascade. The research progress for tumor lymphangiogenesis has tended to lag behind that for angiogenesis due to the lack of specific markers. With the discovery of lymphatic endothelial cell (LEC) markers, growing evidence demonstrates that the LEC plays an active role in lymphatic formation and remodeling, tumor cell growth, invasion and intravasation, tumor–microenvironment remodeling, and antitumor immunity. However, some studies have drawn controversial conclusions due to the variation in the LEC markers and lymphangiogenesis assessments used. In this study, we review recent findings on tumor lymphangiogenesis, the most commonly used LEC markers, and parameters for lymphangiogenesis assessments, such as the lymphatic vessel density and lymphatic vessel invasion in human breast cancer. An in-depth understanding of tumor lymphangiogenesis and LEC markers can help to illustrate the mechanisms and distinct roles of lymphangiogenesis in breast cancer progression, which will help in exploring novel potential predictive biomarkers and therapeutic targets for breast cancer.

    Abstract: The humpback grouper (Cromileptes altivelis), an Epinephelidae species, is patchily distributed in the reef habitats of Western Pacific water. This grouper possesses a remarkably different body shape and notably low growth rate compared with closely related grouper species. For promoting further research of the grouper, in the present study, a high-quality chromosome-level genome of humpback grouper was assembled using PacBio sequencing and high-throughput chromatin conformation capture (Hi-C) technology. The assembled genome was 1.013 Gb in size with 283 contigs, of which, a total of 143 contigs with 1.011 Gb in size were correctly anchored into 24 chromosomes. Moreover, a total of 26,037 protein-coding genes were predicted, of them, 25,243 (96.95%) genes could be functionally annotated. The high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly will provide pivotal genomic information for future research of the speciation, evolution and molecular-assisted breeding in humpback groupers. In addition, phylogenetic analysis based on shared single-copy orthologues of the grouper species showed that the humpback grouper is included in the Epinephelus genus and clustered with the giant grouper in one clade with a divergence time of 9.86 Myr. In addition, based on the results of collinearity analysis, a gap in chromosome 6 of the humpback grouper was detected; the missed genes were mainly associated with immunity, substance metabolism and the MAPK signal pathway. The loss of the parts of genes involved in these biological processes might affect the disease resistance, stress tolerance and growth traits in humpback groupers. The present research will provide new insight into the evolution and origin of the humpback grouper.

    Abstract: Mangrove-associated fungi are rich sources of novel and bioactive compounds. A total of 102 fungal strains were isolated from the medicinal mangrove Acanthus ilicifolius collected from the South China Sea. Eighty-four independent culturable isolates were identified using a combination of morphological characteristics and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence analyses, of which thirty-seven strains were selected for phylogenetic analysis. The identified fungi belonged to 22 genera within seven taxonomic orders of one phyla, of which four genera Verticillium, Neocosmospora, Valsa, and Pyrenochaeta were first isolated from mangroves. The cytotoxic activity of organic extracts from 55 identified fungi was evaluated against human lung cancer cell lines (A-549), human cervical carcinoma cell lines (HeLa), human hepatoma cells (HepG2), and human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines (Jurkat). The crude extracts of 31 fungi (56.4%) displayed strong cytotoxicity at the concentration of 50 μg/mL. Furthermore, the fungus Penicillium sp. (HS-N-27) still showed strong cytotoxic activity at the concentration of 25 µg/mL. Integrating cytotoxic activity-guided strategy and fingerprint analysis, a well-known natural Golgi-disruptor and Arf-GEFs inhibitor, brefeldin A, was isolated from the target active strain HS-N-27. It displayed potential activity against A549, HeLa and HepG2 cell lines with the IC50 values of 101.2, 171.9 and 239.1 nM, respectively. Therefore, combining activity-guided strategy with fingerprint analysis as a discovery tool will be implemented as a systematic strategy for quick discovery of active compounds.
