Abstract: ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the care offered to children with Congenital Zika Syndrome, from the perspective of professionals at a public and university hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro. An exploratory, qualitative case study was carried out through participant observation and semi-structured interviews with eleven health professionals. Data were conducted by content analysis, thematic modality. From the perspective of care as one of the dimensions of comprehensiveness in health, we realize that professionals, mostly women and physicians, are sensitive to family issues, also considered as a care unit, and recognize the difference in the care they provide against the biomedical model still hegemonic in the health area. However, they point out its limits at a fragmented and seriously deficient network. Such limits seem to jeopardize care that embraces the affective and social dimensions of these families, especially women, legitimized as the center of caring for their children. The importance of thinking about an interdisciplinary, critical and reflective health education that allows for a broader look at the vulnerabilities and needs of these families, including an intersectional gender perspective that understands the complex process of social determination in health, is noted.

Abstract: Abstract This essay aims to expand the debate about maternity and care provided by women-mothers of children with congenital Zika syndrome (SCZ), in the current post-epidemic context in Brazil, through a theoretical and political analysis, mediated through dialogue with scientific literature in the area of Social and Human Sciences. From an intersectional approach, which considers social, racial and gender vulnerabilities and inequalities, it discusses how these relationships influence the organization of care and the construction of motherhood for these women. We note that women are the main caregivers of the child, the result of an ideology of motherhood, situated in the sexual and social division of labor within a capitalist society, which imposes different responsibilities and duties for women and men in caring, reinforcing oppression and exploitation. In the context of congenital infection, the precariousness of life and the dismantling of public policies, there is an overload of responsibilities on special warrior-mothers who can compromise their physical and mental well-being, which so much aggravates the situation of social unprotection in which these women meet when they push them in search of collectives that strengthen them as political and rights subjects.
