Early in 1933 a small group of German statesmen and politicians, well-known professors of constitutional law, as well as the president of the "Deutscher Städtetag" came together as an informal committee to discuss possible reforms of the Weimar constitution. While distancing themselves from Hitler's national socialist principles, they nevertheless favoured strong executive power in the form of either a dictatorship, another authoritarian head of state or even a monarchy. In April 1933 these deliberations ended without any noticeable consequences. (Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte / FUB)
