Following a brief historical survey, this article examines the present elements of the Pan-Arab concept. It then deals with the means and frameworks proposed for its realization, and, finally, focuses on the differences between the attitudes prevalent before Nasser's death and after, with emphasis on the latter period. In the author's view, the present situation is marked by demoralization and, in mainstream Arab opinion, by a cautious and incremental pragmatism in attempting to revive progress toward unity.
