Rez.: Daß S. Scheibler sich in der russischen Geschichte gut auskennt, hat sie schon in ihrem letzten Roman "Natascha" (BA 11/93) gezeigt. Auch diesmal stellt sie ihre Hauptperson, die junge und natürlich bildschöne Swetlana Lasarow mitten in Rußlands bewegte Vergangenheit. Als Tochter eines einflußreichen Grafen wird Swetlana mit 17 Jahren bei Hofe vorgestellt. Bald verliebt sie sich in den jungen Rittmeister Barschewskij, der auch um ihre Hand anhält. Dann wird ihr allerdings Großfürst Georg, der Bruder des Zaren vorgestellt, und sie erkennt in ihm ihre große Liebe. Als ihr Verlobter bei einem Duell erschossen wird, scheint der Weg für die Liebenden frei, doch der Großfürst ist sterbenskrank, und das heimliche Glück der beiden dauert nicht lange. Schwanger und von den Eltern verachtet, willigt Swetlana nach dem Tod ihres Geliebten in die Hochzeit mit dem skrupellosen und brutalen Fürsten Sokolow, der sie schon immer begehrte, ein. Viel Herz und Schmerz, dazwischen politische Exkurse, das Ende läßt eine Fortsetzung erwarten
