Analog zu dem 1998 in der altbewährten Reihe der "rowohlts enzyklopädien" herausgebrachten Band "Komödientheorie" (hier nicht vorgestellt) dokumentiert dieser Band die Theorie der Tragödie seit dem Barock in 7 Epochenkapiteln. Einer kurzen Einleitung in Poetik und Tragödienauffassung der jeweiligen Epoche folgen die - immer nur auszugsweise abgedruckten - Quellentexte sowie knappe, aber äußerst sachkundige und informative Kommentare. Beanstanden kann man den Verzicht auf die Darstellung der Tragödientheorie der Antike, auf die sich viele Texte bis in die unmittelbare Gegenwart beziehen. Doch davon abgesehen kann die kompakte und in einem exemplarischen Sinn auch enzyklopädische Darstellung als gelungen bewertet werden. Nach den schulorientierten Einführungen in die Dramentheorie (z.B. E. Hermes, BA 3/90 oder B. Asmuth, BA 2/95) und neben H.-D. Gelfert (BA 9/95) breit empfohlen. (2 S) (Ronald Schneider)
