Dies ist die 1. vollständige Werkbiografie von O. Mandelstam. Der Schweizer Slawist Dutli ("Europas zarte Hände. Essays über O. Mandelstam", ID 14/96) arbeitet das Leben des zu seiner Zeit verkannten, verfemten, verbannten und schließlich unter erbärmlichen Umständen zugrunde gegangenen russischen Dichters akribisch auf. Er ordnet die Gedichte in ihren historischen Zusammenhang und beschreibt ausführlich alle zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen Mandelstams, widmet auch seiner Frau Nadeshda, der wichtigsten Begleiterin, den ihr gebührenden Raum. Das Ergebnis: Wohl selten ist ein Dichter mit so einer hervorragenden, gut und sogar spannend geschriebenen Biografie gewürdigt worden, die jedem Lebensaspekt gerecht wird, dazu den historischen Hintergrund des russischen bzw. sowjetischen Lebens von 1890-1938 fast hautnah miterleben lässt. Zeittafel, Register sowie eine Fülle von Fotoaufnahmen sind selbstverständlich. Leider ist Mandelstam außerhalb Russlands immer noch eher ein Exot geblieben, die Biografie ist also mehr für Kenner und daher nicht für den großen Leserkreis. (2) (Dagmar Härter)
