Frauengeschichte meets Industrie- und Unternehmensgeschichte: Die hier vorgelegten Beiträge gingen aus einer Kooperation der Stiftung Geschichte des Ruhrgebiets mit dem Konzernarchiv der Evonik Industries AG hervor. Sie reflektieren die Entwicklung der Stellung von Frauen in der chemischen Industrie vom Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts bis in die Gegenwart. Im Hinblick auf weibliche Beschäftigung bei den Vorgängergesellschaften von Evonik spannt sich ein weiter Bogen von den Laborangestellten zur Zeit des Ersten Weltkriegs über Chemikerinnen, die lange Jahre als "Raritäten" galten, bis zu den Arbeitsumständen von Zwangsarbeiterinnen im "Dritten Reich". Einen Kontrast dazu bilden die Darstellungen der "Anilinerinnen" bei BASF, wie auch der frühen Managerinnen des Schweizer Pharmakonzerns Hoffmann-La Roche. Auch der aktuellen Situation von Frauen in der deutschen chemischen Industrie ist ein Aufsatz gewidmet, während sich drei weitere Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes mit der gewerkschaftlichen Vertretung von Frauen in Frankreich vor 1914 sowie in Deutschland und den USA nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg beschäftigen.
