"[...] Die Arbeit der 1939 in Lindau am Bodensee geborenen Fotografin ist so persönlich wie gesellschaftspolitisch. In ihrem Buch "Schlafzimmer" (2002) zeigt sie Menschen in ihren Schlafzimmern. In "Kleider machen Leute" porträtiert sie Bischöfe, Generäle und Schornsteinfegerinnen in Berufskleidung und privat. Langzeitbeobachtungen wie "Spuren der Macht" (1999) zeigen die erstaunliche Veränderung in den Gesichtern von Politikern wie am Beispiel Angela Merkel und Joschka Fischer. Immer stellt sie Nähe und Vertrauen her: "Sie können sich aufstellen, wie Sie wollen", sagt sie. In Koelbls Welt löst sich der Mensch von seiner Rolle, lässt sich genauer betrachten und begreifen.
