"Also das kann ich Ihnen sagen, wenn es Annemarie und den Mitternachtsbus nicht geben würde, ich wär schon längst abgekratzt." Jens ist seit fast 20 Jahren obdachlos; als seine Frau und seine Tochter bei einem Unfall ums Leben kamen, brach seine Welt zusammen, er landete auf der Straße. "Ist doch alles scheißegal, ob ich abkratze oder nicht, es vermißt mich eh' niemand." Jens ist nur einer von Tausenden Obdachlosen, die allein in Hamburg in diesem Winter wieder auf den Straßen sind. Jede Nacht fährt der Mitternachtsbus die "Platten", die Straßenübernachtungsplätze in der City an und verteilt heiße Getränke, Brötchen, warme Kleidung, Schlafsäcke, und man spricht miteinander. Für manche ist das das wichtigste. "Ich würde mir Vorwürfe machen, wenn einer meiner Obdachlosen auf der Straße erfrieren würde - das darf nicht passieren: dafür sind wir da", erklärt Annemarie Knapp. 50 bis 80 Obdachlose erreichen sie pro Nacht in der City. Mehr schaffen sie nicht mit dem Bus - dafür fehlen Geld und Personal. "Es lassen sich eben nicht alle Obdachlosen auf Schiffe, zu Massenunterkünften und in Containern unterbringen! Wir müssen akzeptieren lernen, daß Menschen trotz ihrer Not und der Kälte nicht mehr von der Straße wollen. Andere Wege müssen gefunden werden, um zu helfen." sagt die 33jährige Annemarie Knapp, die in dieser eiskalten Winternacht den Mitternachtsbus fährt. Und Annemarie Knapp weiß, wovon sie spricht: sie war selbst ein dreiviertel Jahr lang auf der Straße. Der Hamburger Mitternachtsbus wurde vom Diakonischen Werk und Obdachlosen gemeinsam vor einem Jahr aus der Taufe gehoben. Annemarie Knapp arbeitet mit 44 ehrenamtlichen Helfern und viel Engagement für dieses inzwischen unverzichtbare Projekt. In Hamburg, der Stadt der meisten Millionäre Deutschlands, leben, so die Statistiken, auch die meisten Obdachlosen. Über eine Million Menschen sind in Deutschland ohne Obdach, Tendenz steigend.
