Die Verwandlung des Menschen durch das Amt: Joschka Fischer - Renate Schmidt - Gerhard Schröder. Eine Langzeitbeobachtung von Herlinde Koelbl. 1991 hat die bekannte Porträt-Fotografin Herlinde Koelbl ihr Projekt "Spuren der Macht" begonnen. Seitdem dokumentiert sie in Gesprächen und mit der Kamera die Entwicklung im Leben von Männern und Frauen, die in Spitzenpositionen von Politik und Wirtschaft aufgestiegen sind. Ihre Absicht war festzuhalten, wie sich die Protagonisten über einen Zeitraum von acht Jahren verändert haben, welche Spuren ihr Amt und die ihnen zugeflossene Macht hinterließen. Herlinde Koelbl plante diese Langzeitbeobachtung zunächst als Buchprojekt . Dann kam sie 1992 auf die Idee, eine Videokamera mitlaufen zu lassen und daraus auch eine Fernsehdokumentation zu machen. Elke Hockerts-Werner, Leiterin der Programmgruppe Inland im WDR-Fernsehen, griff diese Idee sofort auf. Fast alle Porträtierten öffneten sich der Fotografin und Gesprächspartnerin in erstaunlicher Weise. So entstand ein zeitgeschichtliches Dokument von besonderer Dichte: Menschen - fotografiert, befragt und gefilmt über viele Jahre. Unmerklich für sie selbst verändert sich die Physiognomie, die Lebenseinstellung, verschieben sich Prioritäten, etwa von der Politik zum Privatleben. Autorin und Redaktion entschieden sich, für den 90 Minuten langen Dokumentarfilm Joschka Fischer, Renate Schmidt und Gerhard Schröder auszuwählen, - den Kanzler, den Vizekanzler und eine Politikerin, die mehrere Tage lang als Kanzlerkandidatin im Gespräch war. Der Rückblick auf sieben Jahre ermöglicht ungewöhnliche Einblicke und Erkenntnisse in Entwicklung und Wandel dreier Menschen, bei denen man annehmen konnte, dass sie beim Beginn des Projekts noch nicht am Endpunkt ihrer Karriere angekommen waren.
