Die Rezeption des meistgelesenen Buchs des 18. Jahrhunderts – Fénelons "Les Aventures de Télémaque" (1696) – ist nur unzureichend aufgearbeitet, obwohl die Forschung sich seit 150 Jahren darin einig ist, dass sein Einfluss auf Literaturgeschichte und Geistesleben des deutschsprachigen Raumes immens ist. Dem verschafft vorliegende Studie Abhilfe, indem sie die verschiedenen Aneignungsformen quer durch alle Genres verfolgt: vom Epos und Roman zur Oper und zum Melodram. Die divergierende Rezeptionsinteressen werden sowohl zeitlich wie auch ständisch segmentiert, um geographische Zentren, relevante soziale Milieus und individuelle Rezeptionsprozesse zu rekonstruieren und deren Einbindung in bestimmte Netzwerke der Aufklärung zu thematisieren. Dadurch erhält die Studie nicht nur den Charakter eines Nachschlage- und Referenzwerks zur Rezeption des „Télémaque" im Habsburgerreich, im Alten Reich und in der Eidgenossenschaft, sondern sie führt systematisch vor Augen, wie diejenigen Aneignungsprozesse ablaufen, die ‚Aufklärung‘ nicht zuletzt als Ergebnis vielfältiger Transfers erscheinen lassen.
