Abstract:
Methylpurine effectively inhibits tobacco axillary buds at concentrations higher than 10 −4 m and inhibits tissue cultures of tobacco at concentrations higher than 10 −6 m. The cytokinin, 6‐benzylaminopurine, not only overcomes apical dominance, but also reverses the inhibition of axillary buds by 6‐methylpurine. 6‐dimethylaminopurine does not alter the growth rate of axillary buds and neither 6‐dimethylaminopurine nor 6‐methylaminopuriue alter the growth rates of tissue cultures except at high concentrations.
