Im 34. Band der Reihe (vgl. zuletzt Band 33 'Nacht im Kerker' von Blanck, BA 10/07) geht es um amerikanische Goldmünzen von 1922, die Justus' Onkel Titus in einem alten Schreibtisch in seiner 'Werkstoffsammlung' gefunden hat. Er verkauft sie einem ihm bekannten alten Münzhändler. Dessen Neffe fälscht mithilfe eines in der Familie vererbten, aber nicht mehr zugelassenen Prägestempels den Jahrgang, um mit den nun seltenen Double-Eagles auf den Bahamas ein Riesengeschäft zu machen. Die drei ??? helfen dem Alten gegen seinen brutalen Neffen, werden selbst von ihm eingesperrt und erreichen doch schließlich, dass der Fälscher mit vertauschten unechten Münzen das Land verlässt und folglich überhaupt kein Geschäft machen kann. Mr. Augustus revanchiert sich bei den jungen Detektiven mit selbst entworfenen neuen drei ???-Münzen für ihre Hilfe und Ehrlichkeit. Der locker und flüssig erzählte, recht plausibel aufgebaute Band ist, wie immer, unabhängig von den anderen Titeln der Reihe zu lesen. Er ist spannend, auch mal lustig und zur Fortsetzung brauchbar.
